Planting Instructions:
-
Sow: Begin indoor planting between mid-February and late March.
Bottom heat of 80–90°F (27–32°C) is essential for pepper germination. Seeds will germinate in 7–8 days at that temperature.
Utilize a soil-less growing mix and sow seeds approximately 6 mm (1/4″) deep. Maintaining the growing medium temperature at 21°C (70°F) will optimize germination -
Grow seedlings under bright light and within a temperature range of 16-21°C (60-70°F) to foster robust, sturdy plants. Transplant after hardening off, typically early June. Optimal conditions include full sun exposure and well-drained soil.
Space plants 30 cm (12″) apart in rows with a 60 cm (24″) gap between rows. -
Soil: Choose well-draining, nutrient-rich soil for optimal growth.
-
Sunlight: Ensure your Jalapeno plants receive at least 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.
-
Watering: Keep soil consistently moist, but not waterlogged.
-
Spacing: Plant seeds or seedlings 18-24 inches apart in rows or in containers.
-
Harvesting: Harvest peppers when they reach desired size and color. Regular harvesting encourages continued fruit production.
Growing Tips:
- Support: Provide support for plants as they grow, especially when laden with peppers.
- Fertilization: Feed plants with organic fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season.
- The Scoville Heat Units: (SHU) scale measures the perceived spiciness of peppers, primarily attributed to the presence of capsaicin. Ratings range from approximately 2500 SHU for mild varieties to several million SHU for the exceptionally hot peppers.
