Queensland Blue Pumpkin Seeds

The Australian Heirloom Standard Sweet Pumpkin Sweet Pulp and Decorative!

If you are looking for a pumpkin that is as visually striking as it is delicious, the Queensland Blue is a must-have for the home garden. This Australian heirloom is famous for its deeply ribbed, slate-blue skin and its dramatic, drum-like shape. Beneath that tough exterior lies a dense, bright orange flesh that is remarkably sweet and fine-grained.

Because the flesh is low in moisture and high in sugar, it is widely considered one of the best varieties for roasting, mashing, or baking into traditional pies. The thick skin also makes it an exceptional "keeper," allowing you to store your harvest well into the winter months.

Growing Highlights:

Packet Size: Approximately 6 seeds.

Maturity: 110–120 days.

Fruit Profile: Deeply lobed, 6–10 lb fruits with a distinctive blue-grey rind.

Texture: Thick, dry, sugary flesh; excellent for culinary use.

Storage: High durability and long shelf life post-harvest.

Mastering the Northern Season

With a maturity window of 110–120 days, the Queensland Blue needs every bit of summer it can get. To ensure a successful harvest before the first autumn frost, we recommend starting your seeds indoors 3–4 weeks before the last expected frost date.

Seedling Care: Pumpkins have sensitive roots. Sow seeds in 3-inch compostable peat or paper pots to minimize transplant shock when moving them to the garden.

Heat is Key: Use a seedling heat mat to maintain a soil temperature of 25°C–30°C for quick germination.

Hardening Off: Once the threat of frost has passed and the soil is warm, gradually acclimate your plants to the outdoors over 7–10 days.

Protection: Consider using row covers, or any old sheet or towel during the first few weeks in the ground to protect against cool prairie nights and wind.
