Provider is a high-yielding, stringless bush bean with great disease resistance. It can be planted earlier than other beans because it germinates well in cool soils. This variety produces straight pods that are best for freezing and canning. Seeds are Purple and small in size compared to other Bean varieties.

Days to Maturity: 50-70 days

Plant Size: Grows 40–70 cm tall

Planting and Sowing

Starting Time: You can start seeds indoors 3 weeks before the last spring frost or the prefered method is to direct sow into the garden after the last spring frost once soil has warmed up, plant when the average daytime temperature is at least 16 C to ensure better germination. The ideal soil temperature for germination is 20 C - 30 C.

For a continuous harvest, sow a new batch of seeds every 2–3 weeks until midsummer.

Sowing Depth & Spacing:

Plant seeds 3 cm / 1 inch deep.

Sow 2–3 seeds every 5–10 cm / 2-4 inches

Space rows 50–90 cm / 20-40 inches apart.

Germination: Seeds typically sprout within 5–10 days.

Thinning: When seedlings are 8–10 cm tall and have developed 2 sets of true leaves, thin them out so plants are spaced 40–60 cm apart.

Harvest and Yield

Harvesting: Pick the pods regularly to encourage the plant to produce more new pods.

Average Yield: Expect an average yield of about 15 lb per 10-meter row, approximately 250 seeds for a 10-meter row.

In the garden, Provider produces a heavy yield of delicious beans. The pods are straight and stringless. The plants produce well in cool weather and are very disease resistant. They grow to about 2 feet tall and make excellent bush variety beans that do not need staking.
