Dr. Wyche’s Yellow Heirloom Tomato Non GMO Non Treated Seeds
Dr. John Wyche was a dentist and a co-owner of the Cole Brothers Circus. He was famous for growing these massive tomatoes in his Oklahoma gardens using elephant manure from the circus as fertilizer. Before he passed away in 1985, he shared these seeds to ensure this unique variety lived on.
Dr. Wyche’s Yellow is a heavy-producing OP known for its glowing tangerine-orange color. Unlike many yellow tomatoes that can be bland, this variety has a rich, sweet, and almost tropical flavor. The fruits are meaty with very few seeds, making them the perfect choice for thick sandwich slices or colorful salads. These are large beefsteaks that consistently weigh 1 lb, with some reaching up to 2 lbs. Great for your organic garden!
Growing Facts
Type: Indeterminate (vines keep growing and need tall stakes or cages).
Fruit Size: Large to Extra-Large 1-2 lbs (16–32 oz)
Maturity: 75 to 85 days after transplanting.
Flavor: Low-acid, sweet, and buttery.
Appearance: Deep golden-orange skin with a smooth texture.
Gardening Tips Because the fruits are so heavy, these plants require very sturdy support like cattle panels or heavy-duty cages. They are known for being more productive and more resistant to cracking than many other large OP varieties. They love full sun and consistent watering.
